Sila was so excited! She just really looked forward to this! She’d been training in summer, much to her father’s annoyance. She had nearly driven her father insane by trying to learn more and more. But today, they were having another offical fire lesson. Training on your own only gets you so far … and her father never wanted to teach her anything, stating she wasn't ready for more. She’d be ready now!

Cheerfully, she looked for Simba and Soma. She was eager to ask them if they were as happy as she was!

Soma “And I’m gonna set that bush on fire first!”
Sima “You should be careful you don’t set your tail on fire.”

Soma “ppff, funbreaker … I bet you can already set bigger things onfire, don’t you??”
Sila jump-walked next to her two friends. Soma was bragging, like always.

“Ha! I made big flames already this summer!”
That wasn’t entirely true… But she did set the entire bush on fire branch by branch. Witch was impressive for a young filly like her. Sila laughed, looking back at Simba.

“Com’on Simba, you’re not still thinking about our first lesson! You made fire, and quite  a lot!”
Simba “sure …”

Sila did mean it as a compliment. He made fire very effectively.
“Today we get to do more! Finally!!”
Sila had been waiting for it for so long .. “I hope we’ll learn something like moving flames! it’ll be so nice to move the flames around!”

“Today we get to do more! Finally!!” The golden doe was very enthousiastic about her firelessons. “I hope we’ll learn something like moving flames! it’ll be so nice to move the flames around!”
Soma “Ha. I’m gonna whield like it a dragon. Time to see who’s the best."
Sila rolled her eyes at Soma’s statement. She was the one who had most control over her fire, and Simba was good a it too.

The teachers silenced the rest of the class.
“Today, your mission will be to move an existing flame from one place to another. Manipulation existing fire is very important, as it founds the base of what will be the rest of your skills.”
Sila’s eyes grew wide. Finally! Moving existing flames!
She whispered to Simba “This is so exiting!”
And was hushed imminently by the teacher.

“Divide yourself in groups, younglings! Three per group please!”
Sila chose her 2 friends immidently. “Simba, Soma?” She asked. She was rather sure she’d get into their group.
Soma “Guess there are no other options.”

The teachers would supervise each a group, to prevent anything going really wrong. The teacher who came stand with Sila’s little group, eyed Simba curiously. Had he seen the the first fire training of Simba or something?
“Alright, you three in a group?” The stag cheerfully asked.
“YES!” Sila nearly jumped up, very happy for more fire training.
“Let’s go then, follow me!”

The teacher took them to a sandy place, with little bushes. If something went wrong, plenty of sand to put the fire out! The teacher created a flame for Sila, Simba and Soma.
“Alright, who wants to go first? Your goal is to move the flame, from this bush, to that one over there!”
Soma “I’ll go first. I’ll show you how it’s done.”
Sila wanted to be the first, but before she could yell, it was Soma who took the lead!
She snorted briefly, and then they waited for Soma’s magic.
The fire teacher nodded happily; he liked it when his pupils were eager to learn.

Simba “Eum, Soma, are you still gonna do something?”
Soma “Shut up! I’m concentrating!”

As Simba asked if Soma was planning to do something, the teacher was shocked to hear Soma’s yell.
“Quite down now … No reason to yell.”
Soma “But I am a Silverthorne!”
The teacher watched the bush burn, and decided it was somebody else’s turn before the bush was all gone. “No reason to get mad .. “ He told Soma. “Everybody learns at their own paste; try to relax a little, and give one of your team mates a chance.”

He softly tried to talk Soma into letting somebody else try … that was not going to work, Sila was sure of that!
Nevertheless, the wanted to avoid getting more of Soma’s yelling, so she quickly said; “I’m next!”
The teacher nodded at her, giving her permission to give this a go.
Sila focused on the flame; feel it feeding, feel it’s heat, feel it moving.
Even trough it was a little wobbly, Sila was able to move the flame.
Simba “Do you see that?”
Soma “Hmmppff.”
“Shhhttt. Let your team mate focus. You can move the flame back to this bush when she’s ready.” The teacher was assuming his pupils would listen..

Sila had to do a difficult task; keeping her focus while Soma was behind her like a thunderstorm. She could just feel his anger. But still, she focused. Her jaw was clenched, her eyes narrowed, and she carefully started stepping forward, moving along with her flame. It was even harder; manipulation fire was easier if you could focus solely on your magic. But Sila wanted to be able to do this!
And she did! Carefully, step by step, she moved closer to the other bush. When she finally reased it, she let the flame go; back to feeding off the other bush.
Proudly, Sila turned around. “Did you see that! I finally moved the flames!!”

She was all hyper and happy. The teacher smiled to her.
“Well done! That was exellent!”
Sila trotted back to her 2 teammates and friends. She couldn't get the big smile off her face.
The teacher let her be proud, till he figured it was time for one of her teammates to give it a go.
“Alright! Time to move that flame back! Who would like to try now?”
He was looking at Simba and Soma; if the dark colt wanted, he could have another go.

“Oké Simba, just concentrate on the flame, on nothing else and stay calm.”

“stop smiling like that … it’s not something special!”
Sila stood her ground to Soma. Simba had done great, so had she. Why was he so jealous? It’d come, the teacher said so!
“Don’t be so jealous!” Sila snapped at Soma.
The teacher angely came between them. “Children, enough! Young man, your powers will grow, you only need to give them time … and young lady, don’t be so rude to your friends!”

Sila backed down, knowing he could end the lesson prematurely if he wished. And she wanted this lessons to contuine very badly. So she apologized.
“I’m sorry Soma.”
The teacher nodded, he was content with Sila’s additude.
“That was great Simba! You controlled that firely so well!”

Simba “That’s was hard …”
“Great, another one that did it.”

Sila rolled her eyes in annoyment to Soma’s attitude. She was eager to try again.
But the teacher stopped her before she got much of a change to go again.

“Why don’t we try a different exercise now? “
Sila wanted to try this one again, but the teacher’s look quickly shut her up.
The teacher wanted to give Soma a new chance, one that was easier for him.

So he figured, he would let them walk on a path of fire, before they would try manipulating the flame again. He kicked some sand over the flame, and using some twigs in the sand, he created a new flame path. The flames were not high, barely reaching over their hooves. This was nothing for a pure Silverthorne, -and since they were all pure Silverthornes anyway- this would relax them, give them a change to unwind before trying the hard exercise again to move the flame from bush to bush.

“You only have to walk -or run- from one end to the other.
The teacher by this time, had picked up their names.

“Sila, would you like to go first?"
“YES!”

She was all ready to race over the fire!
She trotted over to the path of fire. She was ready to start anytime!
The teacher smiled and nodded. “You can go now!”
Sila trotted over the fire, slightly scared, even if it coudln’t hurt her. It took her a few steps to walk a little more normal.
The teacher grinned, it often took fawns a little to get used to being so close to fire.
“Simba, would you like to go next? Soma, you can go last if you want?”

Soma “Don’t get burned!"
Simba “Oké.”

Sila smiled, and was giving Simba a encouraning smile. She was nodding her head, telling him to keep going. Sila giggled, as Simba was holding his breath to cross the fire. He just took step for step, and nothing happened. The fire just … didn’t harm him, just like it had left her unharmed.
Soma was still puffing and angry.
Simba walked back to them, telling Soma it was his turn.

“Your turn Soma.”

“Hey Soma, you are not scared, are you"
“I am never scared! Watch this!”
Sila rolled her eyes when the boys started their puffed up boy behavior. She snickered-giggled at their jokes, till Soma suddenly screamed. Sila wanted to quickly to run over to Soma, but the teacher told her to stay, and ran over himself. A teacher from a different group joined them, to look at what just happened.

“What happened?”

“it hurts!!”

“What’s the problem?”

Both teachers exchanged a look. This wasn’t good. They both knew what this meant.
This colt was of mixed blood. Only a purebred would be immune to fire. He didn’t know who the father of this colt was, but he wasn’t a Silverthorne.

“he got burned …”

Simba “I though mom said we couldn't be burned? Pureblood Silverthornes are immune to fire."

While everyone tried to see what just happened, the teachers started to cover up what happened. The other teacher was using leaves of some kind, Sila had seen her mother use the same. Weren't those for healing? But before she could get a closer look … She was pushed away by the teachers.

“class dismissed!”  Suddenly, it seemed like all the teachers were getting their classes back home.

“Come on, go back to your parents or family, there is nothing else to see here.”

Sila wanted to protest, Soma is her friend! Her friend for cry it out loud, she had a right to be near him!
But the teachers pushed her away.
Simba walked next to her. He whispered something.

“Only pureblood Silverthornes are immuun …”

And then, Sila recalled something.. Something she’d heard her mother and the old hag say ..
She bent over to Simba, and whispered:
“I heard his mom was abducted … His dad could be a Blackwood.”
She exchange a look with Simba, and then looked back. The teachers kept pushing everone away. Sila stopped looking, and followed Simba to the main herd, back to their parents.
The 2 pureblood fawns walked home, never looking back, to see the dark glare of their friend ..

D'aww...poor Sila.  The truth is discovered in her friend.  I wonder how this will change her thoughts towards him.
